Chess Club

     Bethany Chess Club

Bethany's Chess Club is on summer break, but students' games never end using the Chess Kid account to play in tournaments, SLOW games, and games online using the new three time controls for live games. Play a lot and have fun! Check this website for anticipated meeting dates in 2018/2019.

Bethany Lutheran School has a chess club that meets some Mondays during the year..  We meet to play skittles games, look at instructional videos, solve puzzles, learn strategies, and study other facets of this complicated and fun game.  The students may choose to compete in the club tournament with over-the-board (OTB) games. Many students also have ChessKid.com user-IDs. In addition to solving puzzles and watching instructional videos, students can play live games and tournaments against a variety of opponents.  In May of 2014, several Bethany Chess Club members competed against St. Mark Lutheran School in Cincinnati via the Internet in a FAST chess match.  In the spring of 2015, several students competed against a school in Georgia in a slow chess match.  We hope to compete against other schools again this year.

We meet from 3:15 - 5:00, but if students need to leave early or come late, they may do so.  They may attend as many meetings as possible as attendance is not mandatory. There are no fees for this club other than to come and play chess.

Bethany has a club presence on ChessKid.  It is pretty easy to become a member.  Please send me an e-mail if interested in joining the BLS Chess Club. (It is easy for me to create a user-account and have the new user join the BLS club.) My user ID is GreedyRook, and I am the Administrator for the club.
