Math: Chapter Four

Math Chapter Four: Number Theory and Fractions

Chapter four lays much groundwork for the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions.  Some stratagies may seem a little different as the students learn to manipulate numbers.  Check the video tutors for this chapter with the Holt McDougal edition.  The older Prentice Hall series has this for chapter three.

Chapter Focus - Know that a fraction can be viewed as parts of a whole, and use multiplication and division to determine equivalent fractions.

Real World Connections - Recipes often list quantities of ingredients as fractions and mixed numbers.  Chefs must be able to work with these numbers in order to follow recipes.  Many construction and home repair applications involve the use of fractions.
